Italian engineering, OE specification.

Mecarm has decades of clutch-manufacturing history in Italy. The technical points trade buyers care about:

OE clamp-load specification
Pressure plate clamp load (the force pressing the friction disc against the flywheel) is matched to the original equipment value — not over-sprung. Over-sprung aftermarket plates cause heavy pedal, premature release bearing failure, and master cylinder wear. Mecarm clamp loads are within OE tolerance.
Pressure plate fingers torque-tested
Each pressure plate is checked for finger height, diaphragm spring rate, and rivet integrity. Inconsistent finger height is the leading cause of clutch judder.
Friction material matched to OE
Organic, ceramic, or sintered friction material to suit the specific vehicle application. The friction-coefficient profile through the working temperature range is matched to OE to keep clutch take-up progressive and predictable.
Sealed, pre-greased release bearings
Bearings are sealed at the factory with high-temperature grease. No re-lubrication required at fitment. Bearings rated for the full clutch service life.
Italian quality control
All kits assembled and inspected in Italy under EU quality regulations. Batch numbers traceable. Each kit includes alignment guidance for the friction disc spline at fitment.

Common questions about Mecarm clutch kits.

Is a complete clutch kit better than replacing individual components?
Yes — and it is the standard workshop practice. The three friction-system components (pressure plate, friction disc, release bearing) wear together. Replacing only the friction disc will leave a worn release bearing that fails within months, and a weakened pressure plate that judders. A complete Mecarm kit gives matched, new components at the same fitment.
Does Mecarm supply DMF-compatible kits?
Yes. For applications that use a Dual Mass Flywheel (DMF) — common on diesel European platforms — Mecarm supplies the correct friction disc, pressure plate, and release bearing to mate with the existing DMF. We strongly recommend inspecting the DMF at clutch replacement and replacing it if free-play exceeds the OE specification. Eurospares can quote DMF separately if required.
How long should a Mecarm clutch last?
Service life is driven by use, not just brand. In a typical light-passenger application driven moderately, a Mecarm clutch should match OE service life — commonly 150 000–250 000 km. In high-load applications (bakkies pulling trailers, vehicles in heavy stop-start traffic), expect shorter service intervals regardless of brand. Workshop technique at fitment also matters — refer to the bullet on installation below.
What are the key installation points?
Three things matter most: (1) the flywheel friction surface must be clean and within OE flatness tolerance — machine or replace if grooved or heat-checked. (2) The friction disc spline must be aligned correctly and fitted with the correct face toward the flywheel (Mecarm marks the disc “gearbox side”). (3) The pressure plate bolts must be tightened in a star pattern to the specified torque. Sloppy alignment or uneven torque is the most common cause of judder complaints on otherwise-correct fitments.
